To prepare for the IELTS Reading module, read articles in English newspapers, magazines, travel brochures, Encyclopedia, Wikipedia etc. You must read English story books too. Try to read a variety of topics like History, science, culture, social and natural sciences. Here are some tips you will ever need to improve yourself in the reading section!
1. Time yourself
Time management is the difficult thing in Reading because it is not enough. You have to get used to doing everything quickly and correct at the same time. Do the practice tests and time yourself. In this way, you will know where the stand and where you need to get better. Don’t start timing yourself from the very first practice test; give yourself some time to get used to the exam format. Don’t get be used to having all the time in the world to complete the Reading section! ‘Cause, clearly, you won’t.
2. Do what works for you
You'll always find a mix of advice on the ways to approach the reading test. A common complaint from the students studying for the test is that "One teacher told me to do it this way, but the another told me to do it this way". But this is fine – people read in some different ways and what works for one person may not work for another. Listen to the advice, try both ways, and do whatever you works best for you.
3. Develop your speed in reading skills
This reading test has a strict time limit which will challenge your ability to complete the questions in time. You must develop the speed reading skills to be able to find your answers very quickly. This means you must be able to scan the passage quickly to locate the information.
4. Don’t be panic
Some of the questions will be very easy and some will be extremely difficult. The key is not to be panic when trying to answer a difficult one. Nearly all of the IELTS teachers will know to check the answers to some questions because they are so difficult.
